DeMelo optimistic about returning to Senators lineup against New Jersey

The pre-Christmas rush to get back on the ice could become a little crowded for the Ottawa Senators defence.
If all goes well at practice Thursday, Dylan DeMelo will fly with his teammates to New Jersey for Friday’s game against the Devils.
DeMelo has missed the past five games with an upper body injury, but if he’s able to go, Senators coach will suddenly have eight healthy defencemen to choose from.
“I’m hoping,” said DeMelo, who is typically paired with Thomas Chabot. “It will be first full practice (since the injury). I’ve been working hard to stay in shape and as long as practice goes well, everything should be good for the weekend. That’s the last hurdle, I think.”
At one point earlier this month, the Senators were missing six regulars due to injuries, but the picture has become brighter recently. Number one centre Matt Duchene, who has missed the past six games due to a groin injury, is also optimistic about returning for Friday’s game against New Jersey and Saturday’s game at Canadian Tire Centre versus the Washington Capitals.
