WILL THERE BE ACT INQUIRY INTEGRITY?

As the mandated inquiry into invocation of the Emergencies Act progresses, it’s becoming very obvious this Liberal government once more is being found guilty of lying to and misleading both the public and the House of Commons.

Already, every one of almost a dozen reasons, excuses, rationales — call them what you will — has been revealed to be unfounded, incorrect and outright false. Even Ottawa police and RCMP leaders, responding to direct questions, have testified they did not request invocation of the act.

Given this government’s and Justin Trudeau’s personal history of scandals and lack of integrity, the commissioner must use his full authority to demand and require production of all documents, “cabinet confidences” included, on which the invocation decision was based.

When appointed, Commissioner Paul Rouleau was quoted as saying the inquiry would be as complete and “independent as possible.” Let’s hope “as possible” was not dog-whistle speak signalling the former Liberal backroom boy will tailor the inquiry and report to shield Trudeau and his complicit ministers from full exposure of their roles in this travesty.

Rouleau cannot look the other way to protect Liberals from culpability in this massive incursion into the civil liberties of Canadians. How much more of Trudeau’s two sets of rules and standards of conduct will the Canadian public and his lapdog NDP coalition cronies accept?

MENDICINO APPALLING

I have been watching Question Period of late, and I am completely unimpressed with the government performance in the House of Commons. Most often, if not always, ministers cannot or do not give any satisfactory answers to questions from the opposition.

In my latest viewing, I was appalled by Minister of Public Safety Marco Mendicino, who repeatedly avoided answering the same question about which police force demanded that the Emergencies Act be enacted to deal with the truckers’ convoy occupation in Ottawa? Also, he had the gall to demand that the Conservative member and his party apologize to Canadians for encouraging and supporting the trucker protest. If even that was the case, which it wasn’t, would that be worse than lying to Parliament? May I remind the minister that on several occasions he voluntarily stated in the House and to the media outside that the police had requested the use of the act, yet he could not — or would not — divulge who during QP. Simply put, he can’t because there’s no truth to his claim.

May I also remind the minister that, when a member deliberately misleads the House, he should resign. It would appear that the minister’s constant claim that the police were involved in requesting the Emergencies Act was nothing more than a fabrication to cover himself as his claim isn’t supported by any of the police forces simply because it’s not true. That in itself would constitute, at best, misleading the House, if not an outright lie to protect himself and none other than his leader, who is also prone to mistruths and scandals. It fits that his ministers would follow the same path given this government’s policies on openness and clarity, which are non-existent.

There was a time in Parliament when a minister would have the decency to step down at the slightest doubt about his or her integrity. Where is your integrity, Honourable Minister Mendicino?
