Re: Courageous to the end; Sun scribe was fearless in defence of human rights, Lorrie Goldstein column, April 25

I always enjoyed reading Tarek Fatah’s columns. His common sense is scarce in this day and age. He was a man of integrity, honesty, fairness and compassion. He will be greatly missed.

My deepest condolences to his family, friends and co-workers. Rest in peace, Tarek.

(We agree. Deep condolences to his family.)

GERMANS RESCUE CANADIANS

Re: German plane airlifts 58 Canadians from Sudan, as Canadian plane readies for more, online edition, April 24

Our prime minister looked so proud that 58 Canadians made it out of Sudan on a German plane. Once again, our government must go begging for help from other countries to rescue our people.

(That’s what happens when you don’t have a properly supported military.)

STUNNING NEWS

So, CNN’s Don Lemon was “stunned” when his talent agent informed him that he was terminated from CNN. The only thing that stunned me was finding out Lemon has a talent agent. What talent?

But, speaking of “stunned,” Fox News will be stunned when they see their ratings not only drop but plummet due to the fact they fired Tucker Carlson, and they’ll be even more stunned to find out that no one currently on Fox has what it takes to replace Tucker Carlson.

Anyway, as far Tucker Carlson goes, the song that comes to mind is, “I Will Follow Him.”

(That may depend on who replaces him at Fox.)

TAX AND TAKE

Re: Battle ground; Farmer’s expropriated land to be used as military ammo dump, April 25

The above article was extremely disheartening; governments are not here for the people, but are bullies in every way, shape and form. They take as much as they can get, including your soul. There is not even a remote cabin in the bush they won’t tax or take.

It’s no wonder Canadians are beyond frustrated!

SHIRLEY SEARS

(These military dumps have to go somewhere, but do they need to take people’s land?)

NOT ALL THAT ENTHUSIASTIC?

In view of the fact that federal workers are not receiving much public support, it is my understanding that federal workers whose positions are represented by unions such as PSAC can’t be forced to join the particular unions involved. However, due to the Rand Formula, they are nevertheless obligated to pay union dues.

So maybe not every federal public servant is a strike enthusiast.

ALAN GOODACRE

(There’s lots of anecdotal evidence that many would prefer to be working.)
