Re: Kooks only help PM; Protesters make Trudeau look good, Brian Lilley column, July 22

Seeing the news coverage last week of the Belleville protest directed at Justin Trudeau, I was disturbed at the lack of respect shown for the office of prime minister, regardless of the current occupant of the office.

One thing that struck me about the protest was the phalanx of security guards that surrounded the PM. In this and other security incidents, it seems the Trudeau security detail is composed of numerous burly men. Rarely do I recall seeing an equal representation of women security officers around the PM.

Recall that in setting his first cabinet he appointed a 50 per cent male/female cabinet regardless of individual merit. When questioned why, he simply stated, “Because it’s 2015.” I question why this same philosophy does not seem to apply when it comes to his security personnel.

THEY’VE SEEN HIS LIGHT

Most Canadians are confused. During a quick pit stop at the UN World Law Congress in New York last week, the prime minister praised European values as a source of strength during these times of global turbulence.

Obviously these new and enlightened values are preferable to the colonial ones he has constantly chastised our allies for having.

It’s good to see that the Europeans have finally “awoken” and have sourced the strength of our PM’s progressive pandering. It’s about time … right?

ANOTHER BLACK EYE FOR RCMP

Re: Retired RCMP officer charged with helping Beijing intimidation campaign, online edition, July 21

This is yet another black eye on the RCMP. The person who had been in charge of RCMP intelligence is still awaiting trial on very serious criminal charges alleging he leaked intelligence. It is time Justin Trudeau stops slow-walking a national inquiry into China’s alleged interference in the last two federal elections. China also set up rogue police offices to monitor its citizens in Canada.

The longer Trudeau delays calling a public inquiry, the more Canadians will think he has something to hide.

RHYMING REALITY CHECK

Re: LILLEY: Liberal law allowing Paul Bernardo prison transfer part of a pattern, online edition, July 22

Dear Correctional Service Canada Commissioner Kelly and Former Public Safety (Ha!) Minister Mendicino:

Spare me your “sound decision” crapola about Bernardo.

How about a rhyming reality check instead?

Roses are red.

Violets are blue.

Canada rewards homicide.

Like all Liberals do.
