In a year that has seen the planet dogged by floods, tornadoes and wildfires, along comes another pestilence to upset the equilibrium: the incomprehensible demand for Taylor Swift concert tickets.

Paying obscene amounts for tickets to a concert is capitalism at its very worst. I can’t imagine the disgust felt by people who use food banks that are forced to close because of overwhelming demand, or by others sleeping on the streets, or by the young teen girl who can’t afford life-saving treatment for cystic fibrosis.

We were beaten to death for over a year by Barbie movie hype, so, if we are going to be assaulted daily by Swift stories, I will be foregoing all media. Stop the insanity.

Re: Clark promises improvements, rejects calls to resign, online edition, Aug. 9

Regarding the Ontario Greenbelt development plan, Mr. John Fraser and Ms. Marit Stiles are both hypocrites.

Have we all forgotten the terrific mess that Fraser and the Liberals left in Ontario when they were finally kicked out of office? As for Stiles, her federal NDP party counterparts have fully supported Justin Trudeau and his government through all their scandals and disasters. To my knowledge, neither one demanded the resignation of Mr. Trudeau or the ministers involved. As for the mainstream media, which is having a field day, we all know who is paying their salaries. People who live in glass houses should not throw stones!

I feel sorry for any well-meaning politician who attempts to get any project off the ground these days. There are so many rules and regulations and hoops to jump through, and so many fanatical activist groups who strongly object to everything. It must be a very frustrating undertaking.

Unfortunately, Doug Ford has followed the playbook of Trudeau and his federal Liberal government. But has Trudeau or any of the ministers involved in their many scandals accepted responsibility or resigned? Have any of today’s righteous do-gooders demanded the resignation of Trudeau or any of the ministers who massacred their files or pleaded ignorance? I thought not. Double standard, anybody?
