I am not a huge fan of Doug Ford, especially because of his iron-fisted handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, but is there an alternative?

You have recently appointed NDP Leader Marit Stiles, who, like her predecessor, will be pro-union, especially with the teachers, and a backer of big government. Newly crowned Liberal head Bonnie Crombie will no doubt bow to her progressive wing as she gets settled, backing public-service unions and more taxation.

Actually, Doug should step down and have the Queen’s Park Tories find a new boss; they would stand more of a chance of winning a third term.

As it stands now, look for the Cons to lose and the Grits to gain power, which would be a disaster for the province.

LIBRARY PRISONS

Re: Ottawa Public Library seeks $3M for security guards, citing rise in dangerous incidents, online, Dec. 4

Using the Metcalfe library branch, I can’t help but think how different an atmosphere it must have had in the past. Not only can one now notice a large number of people who are homeless, but the change in security gives the feel more of a prison than of a hub of erudition. As for the bathrooms, I’ve used outhouses that were warmer.

When, I wonder, are we finally going to create the conditions in our society that promote human flourishing as opposed to suffering?

Obviously not. This is perhaps the most offensive thing I have seen in a Canadian paper in years. I don’t know who is at greater fault: the page editor who thought that a man being killed by a woman is funny, or the overall editor who let it pass.

Either way, I am absolutely disgusted.

CBC CUTS BEGIN

So it has begun, the inevitable death of the CBC. It has already made arrangements for the $125-million budget shortfall with the announcement of job cuts and positions not being renewed.

Just a quick heads up for the rest of the staff that, as soon as PP is elected, you guys are going to look like lemmings going off a cliff.
