Story Brooke Ending; Henderson puts 45-year Canadian victory drought to bed at CP Women’s Open, Aug. 27

So a few weeks back, a few of the boys were having a Pepsi after a hard day’s work and the following question came up: If you had a chance to play a round of golf with anybody in the world, who would you pick?

I was last to pick, and after all the obvious answers from the others — Woods, Nicklaus, Michelson and such — my pick was Brooke Henderson.

After a few moment and a few funny looks, everyone there said, “Ya, that would be cool.”

I don’t think there’s anything sweeter on the face of this Earth. She is just an incredible, down to earth, wonderful person and deserves all the success she is getting.

Canada definitely has a gem here.

ARE YOU TRYING, SENS?

So, on a scale of 1 to 10, how should we grade the Ottawa Senators organization in terms of creating some off-season excitement to whet the appetites of their fans and to sell some more season-ticket packages?

With only weeks to go before the season starts, is there a red-hot advertising campaign that is ramping up the fans’ excitement and capturing their imaginations?

Have there been some big-name player signings to help amp-up the hopes of the faithful?

Maybe their advertising slogan for the upcoming season, should be, “I know it seems like we’re barely trying, but how much worse can it get than last year?”

YOU FAIL, JUSTIN

As of June, there were 24,891 irregular border crossers waiting to be processed. The irregular border crossers entered Canada using the irregular border crossings.

September has arrived. Assuming grammar is still taught in our schools, I encourage any student asked to give a synonym for the word for unofficial, unauthorized or unsanctioned to answer with the word irregular. If the teacher doesn’t accept his or her answer, suggest he or she check out the Refugee Board of Canada website or contact the office of the prime minister of Canada.

The website should be changed immediately and Justin Trudeau needs to stop using the word irregular incorrectly in a sentence.

It’d be a sad day if Canadian students receive 99 per cent on their grammar tests, with one point lost because of the word irregular.

TRUDEAU SHOULD ADD VOICE TO TB DISCUSSION

Media in Canada, the U.S. and the U.K. recently reported that there were more than 41,000 cases of the measles in Europe so far in 2018, and 37 were fatal. This is particularly tragic because vaccines have been available for measles since the 1960s.

That said, I wonder why we are not hearing about the much more serious tuberculosis epidemic. TB is preventable and largely curable, but is killing more than 4,500 people every day.  My hometown has a population of 5,200, and the mind boggles in trying to imagine it decreasing to 700 people overnight.

Although this is mainly happening “over there” in the Global South, the incidence of TB among Canada’s Inuit is currently being addressed as the crisis it is. The World Health Organization’s End TB Strategy aims to effectively eliminate TB by 2035, but this will not happen without strong political will.

Hopefully, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will add his voice to those of other influential world leaders at the United Nation’s high level meeting on TB to be held Sept. 26.
