A news release said officers responded to the residence on Lake Avenue East shortly after noon following a report that an individual “in crisis” was seen brandishing a knife.
The students were all safe during the incident. Neighbours were advised to remain indoors and the Lake Avenue area was closed to vehicle traffic.
“We had a barricaded person at a residence,” OPP spokesperson Bill Dickson said after the situation was resolved. “We were able to take the person into custody without incident around 3:30 p.m.”
The Upper Canada School District School Board sent emails to parents at Carleton Place High School, which is on Lake Avenue West, and Caldwell Street Public School, which is about a block away from Lake Avenue West, advising that students would remain in school under a “hold and secure” under the direction of police.
