Twin children remain in serious condition in hospital after being rescued from a burning apartment Saturday.
Emergency crews were called to 1465 Caldwell Ave., a high-rise building west of downtown Ottawa between Morisset Ave. and Medford St. shortly after 4:40 p.m.
When fire crews arrived, a second alarm was immediately declared and firefighters began tackling the flames.
Firefighters rescued the two children in a second-floor apartment. They were then both transported to hospital with smoke inhalation.
Also injured, while fighting the blaze, was a firefighter. He too was treated for smoke inhalation.
Another middle-aged man and a woman were treated for minor smoke inhalation and remain in stable condition in hospital.
The cause of the fire has not been determined Saturday night.
