Cyclist seriously injured after crash with car in Chelsea

A cyclist was left with serious injuries after he collided with a vehicle in Chelsea, Que., northwest of Gatineau, Sunday morning, MRC des Collines police say.

At about 11:30 a.m., a vehicle exited Highway 5 North and was traveling towards Scott Street when he hit the cyclist from behind, causing a serious head injury.

The 46-year-old cyclist was traveling in the designated bike lane but the driver of the car said he didn't see him. When the car and cyclist collided, the cyclist's head hit the car's windshield.

The cyclists was transported to the Hull hospital and is expected to recover, a police report states.

Police said that the cyclist was wearing a helmet and that could have been what saved his life.

Police issued the driver a ticket.
