Attention all new home and condo owners! This past week Tarion Warranty Corporation sent out surveys to anyone in Ontario who has taken possession of a new home or condo between October 1, 2011 and September 30, 2012. This yearly survey is your chance to rate your builder’s level of customer service, and your experience with Tarion.
“The opinions of new home buyers are crucial to improving the new home and condo industry,” says Howard Bogach, president and CEO of Tarion Warranty Corporation. “The results of these surveys will provide builders with a true indication of their level of customer service.”
Emails were sent out to all home and condo owners who signed up for MyHome, Tarion’s online warranty management service. All other new home and condo owners were to receive a notification in the mail, directing them to an online survey. Questions focus on homeowners’ satisfaction with their builder, covering every stage in the homeowner-builder relationship from the signing of the Agreement of Purchase and Sale, through construction and the pre-delivery period, to after-sales service. Questions also cover the homeowner’s interaction with Tarion.
Tarion sends qualified builders a copy of their individual results and the results of their category in general (dividing builders into small, medium, large and high-rise). Builders must have at least five new home possessions during the survey timeframe to qualify. The results of these surveys are also used to determine the finalists and recipients of the Tarion Awards of Excellence, announced next April.
“Good customer service can have a significant influence on the entire home buying experience,” says Bogach. “Most builders use the results of these surveys to evaluate and improve their current customer service practices. At Tarion, we also review the results of the survey, as it helps us improve our services and understand how to best serve Ontario home buyers.”
Home and condo owners will have until November 30, 2012 to complete the surveys.
Tarion Warranty Corporation is a private corporation established in 1976 to serve as the regulator of the new home building industry in Ontario. In this role, Tarion licenses all new home and condominium builders. New home builders provide purchasers with warranty coverage that is guaranteed by Tarion.
Tarion also establishes minimum time standards for after-sales service, and conciliates issues between homeowners and builders. As of the end of 2011, almost 400,000 homes in Ontario are protected under the warranty.
