Ottawa Public Library drafts $1.4-million budget increase for 2013

The Ottawa Public Library is proposing a $1.4-million budget increase in 2013.

It means the draft of the 2013 net operating budget sits at $42.6 million and the draft capital budget is $3.5 million.

The library board will consider the 2013 budget Monday.

The extra money would be used to fix up and expand the Emerald Plaza branch and install radio frequency technology. The technology would also be added to the Alta Vista and Centrepointe branches.

However, the lion's share of the proposed increase, at $700,000, is in the area of salary increases. The number of full-time equivalent positions at the library is recommended to stay the same in 2013.

Budget increases are also being attributed to riding software licence fees and the cost of rural deliveries.

The library is forecasting to break even in 2012.
